Purchasing a home, new or old has it's perks and could save you money on your taxes and even put money in your pocket.
Did you know when you make energy improvements to your home, tax credits are available for a portion of qualifying expenses. The credit amounts and types of qualifying expenses were expanded by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
If you reside in the home, you many take advantage of the following credits:
•Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit

$1,200 for energy property costs and certain energy efficient home improvements, with limits on doors ($250 per door and $500 total), windows ($600) and home energy audits ($150)
$2,000 per year for qualified heat pumps, biomass stoves or biomass boilers
•Residential Clean Energy Credit
Fuel cell property is limited to $500 for each half kilowatt of capacity. If more than one person lives in the home, the combined credit for all residents can't exceed $1,667 for each half kilowatt of fuel cell capacity.
This includes:
Solar electric panels
Solar water heaters
Wind turbines
Geothermal heat pumps
Fuel cells
Battery storage technology (beginning in 2023)
